Anna was commissioned by IAP:Mcr for their exhibition Re/Assemble at the People's History Museum, exploring stories from the 1988 Manchester march against Section 28.
Never Going Underground imagines the journey of protestors before,
during and after the march. It includes verbatim text taken from the interview archive that was compiled especially for this project, featuring quotes from activists and actors who describe their
experiences and opinions from the time. The lyrics of the final song draw parallels between 1988 and the rhetoric of today, with the aim of fostering empathy and courage. It was composed especially
for Sherpa K, who inspired Appleby with their sound, style and energy.
This folksong was composed atop Dun I, the highest peak on Iona in the Hebrides.
